 2017 Preview 


       South Lamar completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region five, the Stallions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. South Lamar's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Spring Garden by a score of 40-14.

       Since 2010, South Lamar has gone a combined 25-50. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, South Lamar has managed to compile a record of 150-142. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A and 176th in the AHSAA.

       The Stallions are led by head coach Clay Gilliam who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at South Lamar. Under his direction the Stallions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Gilliam.

       Coach Gilliam's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 6-5 (54.5%).

       The South Lamar Stallions will play in Class 1A region five during the 2017 season.

       The Stallions will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season.

       The Stallions open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Lamar County on Friday, August 25 at George Bell Stadium. Last year the Lamar County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in first place in Class 2A region eight. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to West End Walnut Grove by a score of 41-7.

       South Lamar and Lamar County have met a total of 39 times on the football field. The Stallions have a 20-19-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with South Lamar winning by a score of 32-13.
